Drake's First Birthday Party

Warning: Picture Overload is about to commence.  We celebrated Drake's first birthday on the afternoon of his birthday and had so much fun. He basked in the attention & Ry had a blast with his toys. What are sisters for?

You mean you want me to open these presents mom?

Happy first Birthday, sweet boy! We are so blessed by you!

Build 'Em Up: Playing with my Kids

Do you struggle with finding time or making time to play with your kids? I certainly do. Between work, finishing nursing school, and the normal demands of motherhood/keeping a clean house, I often find myself saying "just one second" or "in a minute"

Let's face it: I could "just one second" all of our lives away. I struggle with learning when to say no to the dishes or the schoolwork and just play with my kids.

Now that Drake is bigger, they do a fairly good job of entertaining themselves most of the time. Of course, there are times when Ryanne wants to play with Mommy whether it be swinging outside or coloring or something else, she is relentless until I give in.

Over time, I've learned it is best to just oblige her immediately, even if for a short time, and she typically moves on to something else more easily afterward. Although there are times when I just can't play with her right then; a deadline, a test, a big project due . . . unfortunately those things have to come before her.

I wish it wasn't that way. But it is. Thankfully, it is only a few more months . . . and hopefully she will never remember those times.

My mom often was too busy for me or my siblings, and I strive and pray everyday that I am not that way to my kids. In reality, though, sometimes I have just had enough of the day. I have to step back and quickly pray for the grace, patience, and energy to play. It never fails, I have the best time and treasure every second once I give in

It is difficult. We all know that. Being a mom is one of, if not the most, challenging but rewarding titles we will ever hold. Thankfully, we have a Lord full of grace who is always happy to extend some our way. Each day is a new day. I try to treasure each moment when I can, but in the times I can't, I know tomorrow will be fresh.

I just pray that my children will always remember the times I did play, and forget the times I didn't. I hope that the playful times will always outnumber the others, and that I am the best Mom I can possibly be.

Blissdom 2013

This past weekend, I went to Blissdom (a blog conference) in Dallas. At first, I was unsure if I wanted to go. Would I learn anything? Would it be worth the time and money?

Once I decided to go, I found out I logistically couldn't. So I unmade plans. And then at the very last minute, I wound up being able to go after all. So I went.

I was happy to be able to stay with Becky, Lindsey, and Heidi. I have met Lindsey and Becky before, and it was great to see them again & chat with them more in depth. It was also fun to meet Heidi & pick her brain.

Becky, Jennifer, Megan, Me, and AP

I have read an chatted on twitter with Jennifer, Megan and AP for years and it was so fun to finally meet them and be able to talk to them in person. They are all so sweet!

We visited the handmade marketplace and checked out all of the fun goodies. (Becky took this picture. Well, actually she took all of these pictures because I left me camera at home. Gasp!)

Heidi, Melissa, Lindsey, and I on opening day.

This was at dinner the first night. Thanks for the hilarity that is this picture, Becky.

Overall, I was kind of disappointed in the content of the sessions. I did learn some valuable information (I'll share later) about blogging and just life in general, but I was underwhelmed with the conference as a whole. I may go back; I may not. We will see . . . but I had a blast getting to know some of my blog and twitter friends in real life.
